Ms. Brittany is our primary teacher at Vine, skillfully managing our kindergarten through second graders every day. Her bright personality and sharp teaching skills are just two of the many reasons we're so fortunate to have her on our staff!
Ms. Brittany, will you give us one example of how learning is customized in your classroom?
Each student is given assignments and tasks that allow them to work within their zone of proximal development. They are given as much time as they need to fully master material without feeling rushed to move on to the next topic.
What are you reading right now?
The Light Between Oceans
If you had 24 hours outside of school to do whatever you wanted, what would we find you doing?
I would spend my day on a beach during the day, go to a football game at night, and end my evening at Dairy Queen eating a blizzard.
What superpower would you like to have if you could choose? No explanation needed...
What's your favorite quote?
"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." ~Eleanor Roosevelt
If you could sit down and have lunch with any one historical character, which one would you pick and why?
Maria Montessori because I am absolutely fascinated by her philosophy of early childhood education.
What do you think makes Vine unique for your students?
I feel that Vine encompasses a nurturing and safe environment where students are encouraged to be themselves. I truly believe that students are able to thrive because they are appreciated and valued for their individuality.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I wanted to be able to work with students to provide them the love and support they need to accomplish their goals. I think that each child is an amazing being who harvests such potential. It is important for me to help these young students feel empowered within their world.
Thank you so much for sharing with us, Ms. Brittany!
Brittany joined our school as the very first intern, and has proven to be an integral part of the Vine family. She brings a unique set of qualifications and experiences that make her the ideal primary program director and lead teacher. She first joined Vine Academy in 2012 as a 1:1 coach. She graduated with honors from Elmhurst College in 2013, with a degree in speech language pathology. Brittany then completed her Montessori credential specializing in early childhood education. This unique foundation in language development and early childhood developmental milestones has shaped the way Brittany tailors instruction and goals for her students, helping each student reach his or her highest potential.
In addition, Brittany is Orton-Gillingham trained and uses this multi-sensory approach in her literacy class. She believes that children learn by doing and that her philosophy of classroom instruction allows children to learn in a natural way. In addition to her primary classroom, Brittany has taught many projected learning courses at Vine, creating open ended projects that allow students to explore their interests and talents. Her multi-sensory approach, organizational abilities, and philosophy of student choice has allowed her to facilitate her classes so that students are allowed to explore with freedom and yet still have the structure to meet their needs. Brittany is thrilled to share her passion for educating young learners with the Vine community.
